Cambodia, China, and Thailand Discuss Regional Cooperation and Border Disputes at Mekong-Lancang Meeting
Anning City, Yunnan Province, China, August 14, 2025 — Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, participated in an informal consultation with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, and Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on the sidelines of the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Anning City.
The meetings reaffirmed China’s ongoing support for regional stability and development, with a particular focus on border issues and bilateral cooperation. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed strong support for Cambodia and Thailand in resolving their border disputes, emphasizing that China stands ready to assist according to their needs. He highlighted China’s encouragement for both countries to strengthen dialogue, build mutual trust, and restore friendship.
Following the separate meetings with the Cambodian and Thai foreign ministers, Wang Yi issued statements through the Chinese Foreign Ministry, reaffirming China’s commitment to regional stability and cooperation. He assured Cambodia and Thailand of China’s readiness to support their efforts in resolving border difficulties and enhancing bilateral ties.
In his meeting with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, Wang Yi underscored China’s commitment to accelerating the construction of the China-Thailand railway, an important infrastructure project aimed at boosting regional connectivity. He also encouraged Chinese companies to increase investments in Thailand and assured efforts to uphold the stability of regional supply chains and production networks.
During his discussion with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, Wang Yi voiced support for Cambodia’s efforts to maintain political stability and praised Cambodia’s measures to combat online gambling and fraud, which align with regional security concerns.
The Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting continues to serve as an important platform for dialogue among ASEAN members and China, emphasizing shared interests in economic development, regional stability, and peaceful resolution of disputes. Cambodia’s participation underscores its commitment to regional diplomacy and constructive engagement within this framework.
